n-3 fatty acids: Health and brain

Two girls and a fish

We conduct clinical trials, Mendelian randomizations and observational designs in participants of all ages.

  • Do omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil or marine foods affect socioemotional wellbeing and cognition, growth and body composition, metabolism, immune function and cardiovascular health?

  • What is the optimal intake in healthy people as well as under different clinical conditions?

  • What are the mechanisms of action behind the different effects?

  • Does the gut microbiota play a role? Are the effects affected by polymorphisms in genes related to fatty acid metabolism or function?
