More2Sleep is a research project investigating how sleep extension affects children’s health, and we are looking for children to participate
Purpose of the Study
We want to investigate the effect of extended sleep on body weight regulation and learning ability in school-aged children.
Study Design
Your child will be randomly assigned to either a “sleep extension” group or a “control” group. The study consists of a three-month intervention followed by a six-month follow-up. Assessments will take place before and after the three-month intervention, and again after the six-month follow-up (months 0, 3, and 9).
Your Child Can Participate if:
- He/she is a healthy boy or girl
- He/she is between 6 and 12 years old
- He/she has a BMI above average for his/her age and sex
- He/she sleeps nine hours or less per night (based on your self-report)
What Will Your Child Gain from Participating?
Each child will receive a detailed assessment related to body weight regulation and learning ability, including evaluations of body composition, cardiometabolic risk, cognitive function, brain activity, and more. All children who complete the three-month intervention will also receive a commercial smartwatch.
Where Does the Study Take Place?
The study is conducted at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports (Nørre Allé 51, 2200 Copenhagen N). Optional substudies takes place at Rolighedsvej 26, 1958 Frederiksberg C, and Hvidovre Hospital, Kettegård Allé 30, 2650 Hvidovre.
