Empowering Young Lives: Tackling Health Challenges Among School-Aged Children in Somaliland.

General Objective of EMPHASIS

To improve health of school-aged children in Somaliland by providing evidence-based and context-sensitive recommendations for preventive measures against leading causes of anaemia.

 

  1. To determine biological and contextual risk factors of anaemia among school-aged children in selected schools in Borama and Berbera, Somaliland.
  2. To explore motor, academic and cognitive development of school-aged children in Borama and Berbera, Somaliland.
  3. To engage stakeholders in the co-creation and testing of a context-sensitive school-based intervention tailored to local risk factors for anaemia and their effects on motor and cognitive abilities of school-aged children in Borama and Berbera, Somaliland.
  4. To develop evidence-based recommendations for a national programme targeting anaemia among school-aged children in Somaliland.
  5. To strengthen research capacity at University of Hargeisa, including south-south collaboration and PhD studies on molecular diagnostics and on social and educational science.

 

 

The project is a transcontinental collaboration project between Universities in Denmark (UCPH and DTU) and University of Hargeisa in Somaliland.
