Glucose homeostasis during pregnancy and offspring health outcomes and a suggestion for a pre-pregnancy lifestyle intervention

Maternal body mass index (BMI) prior to pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are associated with increased risk of pregnancy complications and excessive neonatal growth, which may have long-term effects on the offspring.
This PhD thesis explores the association between glucose homeostasis in pregnant females with overweight or obesity and offspring health outcomes from birth to 7-9 years of age.
Furthermore, a suggestion for a randomised controlled trial investigating the effect of pre-pregnancy diet-induced weight loss among prospective mothers with overweight or obesity and the prospective fathers on offspring fat mass at birth was developed.
