Thomas Elbenhardt appointed as Professor
Following an open international application process and external evaluation, Thomas Elbenhardt Jensen has been appointed as Professor of Molecular Exercise Physiology at the University of Copenhagen’s Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, starting 1 November 2024.
Professor Jensen leads the research group Muscle Growth and Metabolism, focusing on understanding how striated muscle functions in health and disease states within the moving body at the molecular mechanistic level.
His research brings together interdisciplinary expertise in human physiology, molecular cell biology, and transgenic animal models to explore these complex cellular processes that determine muscle function. His work has led to significant advances in muscle redox biology, insulin-dependent and insulin-independent glucose uptake regulation, and the regulation of muscle size.
With a continued strong focus on methodological innovation, his group is now developing cutting-edge techniques in human in vitro models, high-throughput gene editing in mice, advanced imaging, and muscle-specific drug delivery, aiming to provide fundamental scientific breakthroughs, research-based education within molecular exercise physiology, and make a positive impact on human health and performance optimization.
An inaugural lecture and reception will be held on 17 January, 2025 at 2PM. Venue and a link for registration will be online shortly.
