Socialisation and social change are two processes that are linked to each other, but are different. Socialisation defines a process in which a person develops into a member of a society. Social change, however, refers to the process that describes the changes of social institutions and social systems, like the economy, culture, or for example, the fields of movement culture and sport.
The aim of this book is to explore the way that the development of persons is part of the social change of movement culture and sport. Formulated as a question: In what way does social change depend on changes in the participating persons?
Both processes are running on different level: the personal individual life on one level and the organisational and societal system on another. To find the connection between both, we must look at the interactions of the acting persons in their social context. In our case, we have to look at the social contexts of movement culture and sport.
This book is a collection of articles, in which the authors have investigated specific fields of movement culture and sport. The articles follow the general thesis that participating in sport is both a socialisation process and an input for social change of movement culture and sport.

This book gathers a number of disciplines relevant to science of running. Several chapters focus on the various aspects of performance in running, whereas others deal with how to train to improve performance in running with specific descriptions of the training performed by top-class runners. The aspect of how to avoid injuries is also thoroughly covered.
All chapters provide up-to-date knowledge about running presented by world leading experts within running. The book is a useful tool for researches, teachers, coaches and runners to understand how to optimise performance in running.

Gender and Sport - From European Perspectives is about different aspects of the development of physical education, gymnastics and sport for women in Europe in the last three hundred years. The chapters in the book represent seven papers about gender and sport from the Third Seminar of the History of Sport in Europe, Copenhagen 1998 in auspicium of the European Committee for the History of Sport (CESH).
They show that gender is an important perspective to look at in the development of physical education and sport. The authors also have so distinct perspectives, that the book helps to enrich the study of the European heritage of sport.
