Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports
The department was established in 2012 when the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences and Department of Human Nutrition were merged.
The research integrates knowledge within physical activity and nutrition with health, disease, physical performance, gender, age, life style, demographic, psychological, and social factors, including research interventions in labour and leisure time as well as during hospitalization and in rehabilitation.
An area is human intervention studies with food components, diets, exercise and sometimes drugs, taken genetic and epigenetic background into consideration. Animal models, basic molecular and other advanced laboratory methods and methods in motivation and social interactions are used.
Research is conducted in both high and low income countries with healthy and sick individuals of all ages from fetus to the elderly. The importance of training and nutrition in elite sport is also studied with a focus on the physiological and psychological mechanisms limiting performance.
