I am fascinated by the role of the gut microbiota in nutrition and health. My research has especially contributed to the understanding of the effects of different dietary regimes (a New Nordic diet, a wholegrain diet, a low-gluten diet, and a Mediterranean diet), dietary or xenobiotic components (gliadin, haptocorrin, antibiotics, pesticides) as well as colonic transit time on the gut microbiome and metabolome.

My research on diet-microbiota interactions combines the fields of metabolomics, gut microbiota and human nutrition using human interventions and cohort studies with a strong focus on identifying diet- and microbial-derived metabolites and investigating how these influence health and disease.
