Short biography:

The major research interest has been on efficacy and safety of weight loss interventions both short term and long term. The focus has been on formula weight loss diets and meal replacements, changes in body composition during weight loss, micronutrient status in the obese and changes in biomarkers related to cardiovascular disease. Pia has designed and been responsible for the dietary intervention in several clinical studies with osteoarthritis patients with focus on non-pharmacologic and non-surgical treatment with the aim of improving function and reducing pain (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00655941 and NCT00938808). Pia has been a member of the European working group EULAR (European League Against Rheumatism) and co-authors the latest European guidelines on non-pharmacological treatment of knee- and hip osteoarthritis.

National and international affiliations:

  • Member of the Danish Reference group making the National Clinical Guideline for Obesity Surgery 2016.

  • Member of the European League Against Rheumatism Steering Group 2012 for the development of “EULAR recommendations for non-pharmacological management of hip and knee osteoarthritis“.

  • Member of the Danish Research Association for the Study of Obesity (DSAF).

  • Board member of the Danish Obesity Patient Association (Adipositasforeningen).
