PhD Fellow, Afton Halloran, has been selected as a delegate of the Next Generation Delegation. She will take part in the Chicago Council's Global Food Security Symposium on April 16th in Washington DC. The Symposium will discuss the US government and the international community's progress on addressing global food and nutrition security.

The Next Generation Delegation programme was launched in 2013 to provide an opportunity for promising students to engage in symposium discussions and to interact with policy, civil society, and business leaders working on agriculture, food, and nutrition issues. Nearly 500 applications were received by the Chicago Council from students attending 252 universities in over 46 countries. Only a select few were chosen to participate.

Prior to the Symposium, Afton will take part in a programme involving U.S. government senior staff participation. She will also participate in the Symposium social media discussions, such as on Twitter and Facebook. Immediately following the Symposium she will debrief the symposium with other members of the Next Generation Delegation and Council staff to share her overall impressions. In follow up to the Symposium, Afton will also be writing for The Council's Global Food for Thought blog with a post about her research and career aspirations.
